Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is underway and the company has already announced a few new features for macOS Mojave. However, one of the most anticipated announcements is the long-awaited release of Universal Control. Unfortunately, it looks like this feature won’t be available when macOS Monterey launches later this year. Universal Control is a major update to macOS that will allow users to control their Macs using just one set of gestures. For example, you can swipe up from the bottom of your screen to open your app drawer, or swipe left to go to your desktop. This feature was first announced at WWDC 2017 and was supposed to be released with macOS Mojave. However, it appears that Apple has decided not to include Universal Control in macOS Monterey. Instead, the company is focusing on other features such as Dark Mode and new ways to interact with apps. It’s unclear why Apple has decided not to include Universal Control in macOS Monterey, but we hope that the company will change its mind and release the feature later this year. ..
One of the lead features Apple is pushing with the release of macOS Monterey is Universal Control. The feature is all about streamlining workflows for anyone who uses multiple Mac computers and iPads at the same time, as it will allow a single mouse, trackpad, and keyboard to be used across them all at once.
If you only have a single Mac and no iPad, you won’t notice that the feature is missing, but for people who are really in the Apple ecosystem, it was a feature that could have really bumped up productivity.
The delay doesn’t come as a huge surprise, as the feature was missing from the final beta releases of macOS Monterey, which is a clear indication that it wasn’t quite ready to go. After all, if Apple wasn’t prepared to unleash it on testers, the company, which is known for its polish, certainly wouldn’t push it to a final build.
Unfortunately, Apple didn’t say exactly when we’d see the new feature, only saying that it’ll launch “later this fall.” That means it shouldn’t be too long, as Fall is only a few months long. Even with the delay, the company’s macOS Monterery feature page has tons of new features, so it’s probably still worth upgrading.
