If you use Gmail and Google contacts on your desktop or laptop computer, you may want to sync them to your iPad so you can access them wherever you are. There are a few different ways to do this. The easiest way is to use the Gmail app on your iPad. Just open the app, sign in, and select your email account. Then tap the Contacts icon at the top of the screen and select Sync Contacts. Google also offers a sync service for its contacts. To use it, open Google on your desktop or laptop computer and sign in. Then click the three lines in the top left corner of the window and select Settings > Accounts > Add Account > Gmail (or Yahoo! Mail, AOL Mail, or Microsoft Outlook). In the Add Account dialog box that opens, enter your Gmail address and password. Click OK to add Google as an account. Next, click Settings > Accounts > Sync Contacts and choose whether to sync all contacts or just those in your current mailbox. ..
After using a Google tablet for so long, I expected my contacts to magically be there when I started using an iPad again — especially after setting up my Gmail account. Sadly that was not the case, and I had to setup my contacts manually. Here’s how I did it.
Syncing Google Contacts with the iPad
Head into Settings -> Mail, Contacts, and Calendars. Click the Add Account button, then choose Other.
Pick Add CardDAV Account.
Under server, put google.com, add your full Gmail address as the user name, and then drop in your password. If you are using two-factor auth, you’ll need to generate an application password for this.
Now you should have your contacts in your email. I really don’t understand why this isn’t done automatically, but whatever.
