If you’re like most people, you probably use FaceTime to talk to your friends and family. But if you’re using an iPhone, there’s a good chance that some of your contacts are fake. And if they are, it can be difficult to tell them apart from the real people in your life. To fix this problem, you can set up a fake contact list on FaceTime and then turn off “fake eye contact” when someone is talking to you. This will make sure that all of your contacts are real and not just pretend ones. To do this, open the Settings app and go to “FaceTime.” Then, under “Personal Info,” click on the “Add New Contact” button. Enter a name for your fake contact list and click on the “Create” button. Now, when someone talks to you in FaceTime, they’ll see only their real name and address instead of any fake ones. This will help keep your conversations more honest and prevent them from being faked by other people in your life.
On an iPhone XS or later running iOS 14 or higher, FaceTime digitally modifies your video feed so your eyes are always looking into the camera—even when they’re not. If you find the idea of digitally altered eyeballs unsettling, this feature is easy to turn off. Here’s how.
First, open “Settings” on your iPhone.
In “Settings,” tap “FaceTime.”
In “FaceTime” settings, flip the switch beside “Eye Contact” to turn it off. This disables the fake “natural eye contact” feature.
You can now leave the “Settings” app. The next time you use FaceTime, your pupils will be exactly where you’d expect them to be. Reality wins—for now. Have fun in your call!
