If you’re like most people, you probably use your Mac to do a lot of things. But sometimes you want to keep track of things without having to remember every single thing. That’s where recurring reminders come in. A recurring reminder is a type of reminder that is set up on your Mac so that it will beep once every day or every other day, and then it will disappear. You can set up a recurring reminder for anything—a meeting, a task, a project—and it will beep and disappear automatically. There are two ways to set up a recurring reminder on your Mac: through the preferences pane in the System Preferences window or through the Reminders app. The preferences pane is more complicated but it’s also more versatile. Here’s how to set up a recurring reminder in the preferences pane:

  1. Open the System Preferences window and click on the General tab.
  2. In the Reminders section, click on the Add New Reminder button and enter an name for your recurring reminder. For example, “My Meeting.”
  3. Click on OK to add your new reminder and close the System Preferences window.
  4. Open the Reminders app and click on Add New Reminder from the main menu bar. In the Add New Reminder dialog box, enter an name for your recurring reminder and click on OK to add your new reminder. Close the Reminders app when you’re done with it. Now that you have a recurrent reminder set up, all you need to do is start using it! To start using your new recurring reminder, just open it up in REMINDER mode (by clicking on its name in the main menu bar), and then start working on whatever you want to remember with it!

If you find yourself needing to be reminded about regularly occurring tasks, you can easily schedule a repeating reminder using the Reminders app on your Mac. These reminders will pop up in your Notifications section at the correct time. Here’s how to set them up.

First, launch the Reminders app, and click the “Today” button in the sidebar. Then click the “+” (Plus) button in the upper-right corner of the window.

A new reminder will appear in the list. Type in the name of the reminder, then click the tiny “Info” button beside it (which looks like a small “i” in a circle).

In the bubble that pops up, set the reminder date and time (or location, if applicable.) Next, click beside the “Repeat” option, and select how often you want it to repeat.

You can make a reminder repeat every day, every week, every month, every year, or “Custom.” The “Custom” option allows you to set reminders that recur on certain days of the week, certain days of the month, or in certain months of the year with various levels of control.

After that, you can choose when to end the repetition if you wish using the “End Repeat” option—or the reminder can repeat forever.

When you’re done, simply click outside the bubble and the settings will be saved. Check your list of reminders, and the one you just added should be there.

If you need to add more repeating reminders, just click the plus button again. You can add as many as you’d like. Good luck!
